Food For Thought : Mustard May Ease Leg Cramps?

So I was reading the Orlando Sentinel’s People Pharmacy section and the question was asked ” how does mustard relieve leg cramps?” because the person ate a teaspoon of mustard after a two days of  leg cramps and within minutes her cramp was gone.

The columnist gave a limited response as follows : “I can’t explain why yellow mustard works so quickly to relieve leg cramps, but you are certainly not the first to report success. Perhaps the turmeric that makes mustard yellow is the key ingredient, or possibly it is the vinegar. Regardless, swallowing a teaspoon of mustard is an easy, inexpensive way to treat leg cramps. ”

According to the people’, Turmeric and its most active ingredient curcumin have gotten attention for their anti-inflammatory properties. We have heard from readers that this yellow spice used in curry powder and mustard can help alleviate arthritis pain.

So the next time your leg starts acting up, eat a hotdog & don’t hold the mustard.
